RETAINERS

  • When the braces are first removed, it is important to wear the retainers as instructed.  Remove the retainers to eat or brush your teeth.  Do not chew gum while wearing the retainers.
  • Always put the retainers into place with your fingers.  Biting them into place may cause damage.
  • Remove retainers carefully.  Using your fingers, start in back and work around to the front to remove.
  • Any time the retainers are out of your mouth, they must be placed in your retainer case and should be kept moist.  If they dry out, they will become brittle and crack easily.  Do not wrap in a napkin or place them on the counter.  The retainers are clear, therefore they can be hard to find if they are misplaced.
  • Clean retainers in Efferdent or similar denture or retainer cleaner as needed.  Do not brush them because it is easy to break them.
  • Do not place in hot water, leave them in the car, or in a window. Heat can warp your retainers.
  • Do not leave your retainers where a pet can get them.  They may think that your retainers are a chew toy.
  • If you loose or break your retainers, you will be charged for replacements.  Please call our office as soon as possible so a new retainer can be made before any shifting can occur.
  • To keep your teeth perfect, you will need to wear the retainers at night forever.  This is an easy way to insure your beautiful smile.
